I can only say HotGrips! I have had them on two bikes so far. No failures like the HD units. Look at their web site they have them for the one inch bars. They will need a little modification to the first 1/8 inch on the throttle grip. There is a collar that gets in the way of a seamless installation.
I have a heated Jacket & would never go back!!! Just a long sleeve T- shirt, Heat & Leather over & your good to freezing. No more bulk. Switch it on & off if too warm or cold! I was curious about grips though. I am ionclined not to get, as with jacket, a warm core leaves hands very good.
My advice, don't try a jacket, you'll never go back!!!!
You are up in Truckee. High altitude thin air and COLD temps make for frozen digits. HotGrips and you can ride. No HotGrips and wait till May. I'm with you. Spend 20 large on a bike and what difference does another $130 plus waiting for spring spare time on Saturday AM make? You put on heated grips because you can. Because it feels so right when you turn them on and your paws start to feel the radiated heat. Puts a smile on your face. If you are fine without that's fine. But if you want'um go for it. A Harley is just not all chrome ya know.
Hey toytech, well said! The hotgrips if installed with care are quite unobtrusive and really very effective. Yeah the climate here is pretty severe and makes for a short season, in fact it's snowing as i type this. Forecast looks grim, hope it breaks soon and the roads clean up, gotta ride! If you get up this way this summer give me a shout.
It would be good to meet up. I like the mountains very much. Truckee is a excellent staging area for mountain rides. First the never ending rain and in your area snow needs to stop and melt. I am currently in the boat business and will likely be in the Tahoe are often.
when it's cold out I just put one hand in my pants Al Bundy style...and ride with the other hand...then I switch... Only problem is, when I go to warm my right hand, the bike slows down immediately. Can't figure it out.
