Default Disappearing Dealership

We all know that the ecconomy sucks. Car dealerships everywhere are going under and now our local HD dealership has become history. Santa Cruz Harley was a terrible shop, but it was the only dealership in town. Now the closest dealership is 40 miles away in San Jose. Hopefully somebody that actually knows how to run a dealership buys the place and makes something out of it, rather than some yuppie lookin' to cash-in.

Yeah hopefully the good ones will survive. I just hope that these dealers will now realize that nothing is guaranteed and maybe improve

Wouldn't that be something if dealers began to realize that they need to develop loyalty and customer satisfaction so you'll come back repeatedly?

For the last few years it seems to me that many have been happy to screw you good once and then say "next?"

I don't even think a drunken chimpanze who won the lottery would by an HD dealership now. HD will do just fine, they just need 35% fewer dealerships and smaller ones at that. Ray

Sign of the times I guess.

Hopefully the good dealers will survive and the one that gave dealers the "Stealers" rep will see the error of their ways.

Its hard times. I was reading that Harley net sales were down 37% in the 3rd quarter. That really sucks. Times like these require more than just knowing how to run a business but also well maintain customer relationships.

Bike sales are down, parts sales are up.
I really hate to see dealerships go, it doesn't do much for any other dealers overall image, but the way things are today it's going to be a bit of a blood letting, hopefully it'll only affect the shops that have been screwin' people.

In tough economic times the good dealerhips will survive while the bad ones will go under.

Same thing goes for Car Dealership service managers who try to make it as HD service mgrs, in my opinion they need to first understand that they ain't in Kansas anymore Dorothy! They don't know the mentality and how bikers think or feel about these machines. They also don't understand that most of the people who bring their bikes in probably know way more than that service manager knows about bikes. I watched this situation unfold at a Harley dealership one time and it wasn't pretty, he lasted about 3 months.
