Default how to greet while passing

ok to start off, I am originally from Europe, and now live here in NY.
Now I know we all (more or less) greet each other when passing each other in opposing directions: a nod, hand signal, so forth.

In a lot of the European countries (let's leave England out of the list since they drive on the opposite side of the road and do things differently) riders also greet each other when they overtake one another. Let's say i am coming up behind you, I would change lanes, and then as i pass you I would put out my right leg (extension slightly down or slightly way from the bike depending on riding style)(off course only when traffic permits) as a greeting, instead of throttle hand. This gestures is also often used as a sign for thanks if a cager moves over to let you through and so forth.

is there anything like this here in the States? I have not noticed it here in the NYC area, but then it might be that people are to worried about moving the leg in our usual traffic.
Would people understand if i do it? or would it be seen as an insult/or similar?

How do riders greet each other in such an instance?

Well, here in the states extending the leg indicates "I gotta pee" so generally no you won't see this much while riding.

Also, extending the leg could indicate a road hazard of some type.

Maybe I just don't get it? Here it means nothing... My riding group uses it to worn of road hazards on the right side (pointing on the left).

Cool Wrong Way

I always feel sorry when meeting someone going the other direction as they are going the WRONG way.
