I think you have a memory that will never be forgotten. I have a old truck, not much to look at, but it was cheap, and it gets me by in the winter months and rainy season. Glad you got home ok.

It sounds like it was a real crappy ride home, glad you were able to get you and the sled home safe.

Glad you got home, did you jump into the spa like I did to thaw out?

Looks like it's going to be a long cold winter this year. Glad I'm in So Cal.

PowayPete, at least I didn't have to navigate any slopes! Thankfully, Texas is as flat as my a$$! I was freaked enough as it was, had I been required to go down or up mountains I can only hope I wouldn't be found on the side of the road huddled near my engine for warmth cryin' like a baby! lol

By the way, I had just installed an oil temp gauge in my fairing a few weeks back (The temp gauge went out...making the broad assumption it ever worked.) and I found it a little disconcerting that the oil temp hovered around 125 degrees. That can't be good for the engine I wouldn't think. I run Mobile 1 Vtwin 20w-50 Syn. I'm kinda concerned what kind of stress that could put on the oil pump as I doubt it ever got warm enough to thin out much. Anyone have an opinion aboot that?

About your oil temp, I figure as long as you're not hot doggin it and being easy on the throttle, you'll be fine (I know you weren't, been there, done that). Oil has to go from 'room' temp to operating temp. No strain on the oil pump either, just take it easy until up to operating temp.
I've always run dino oil in mine and change it religiously. Never had a problem.
NOT STARTING AN OIL 'THINGY' HERE EITHER.

Glad you made it... I know the feeling when you just say "Oh ****!" (though not to your extent)

I did have the experience of my jeep over heating in 5 degree weather today. Radiator exploded, because I hadn't looked at my fluids yet. I made it withen 3 blocks of the repair shop I was headed for before it ceased to run.

I got hosed. I had to drive to Dallas Love Field in that junk tonight. I had a Learjet arriving at 10pm that needed an oil adjustment. I left around 8:45pm and headed east. It's dry out here at Weatherford, but in downtown Ft Worth I hit the first section of closed freeway and had to take the access road for a block then get back on I30. It got bad over by Six Flags with freezing rain. They didn't do jack to prepare the overpasses on I30. I took Loop 12 north and found a large section of it closed due to cars rolled at the overpasses. I took 183 and 820 on the way home. Arlington, Irving and north Ft Worth were the worst with freezing rain. Got to slide around a few times in the truck. I've had way worse, but it was still not what I wanted to do tonight, but I have to go where the planes break.
