I am serious thinking of buying used next time, and not have to go through one of their dealers.

You are not crazy. There are a lot of barely used bikes out there that you can save a lot of $$ on and use that cash for upgrades. You can't be picky about color.......but if you save $2000 you can have the bike custom painted. Bottom line: If the bike is good mechanically........why not?
Hey,I want to be on the advisory panel too!I deserve free stuff since I didnt get anything free when I bought my 04 Road King.Hope I get it when I trade for a new ultra classic.
Maybe all you folks who are now on the advisory panel could, ya know, get together on the feedback to H-D. You know, the whole passel of you setting the "powers that be" straight on the idiocies we have to put up with as H-D owners -- or would that be cheating? Anyway, from what I learned about y'all from your past posts I think we'll be in pretty good hands.
I don't expect to get an invite to this panel since my fight over warranty coverage on a 6 month old bike is entering it's 4th month. Based on the MoCo's lack of integrity I've seen, I can't agree with you that their heart is in the right place...

Solo,
...Even though I think the MoCo's heart is in the right place, most of our experience is through dealers and will be something I will be watching very closely in these questioneers...

Don't hate me guys but I got an even sweeter deal:
I just logged on to their website. Filled out a quick form and was invited to meet with them in person.
They asked that I ride in and said I would be participating in a Motorcycle Research Study.
The letter said I would be given the "opportunity to talk directly with Harley-Davidson personnel who design and build your motorcycles".
How sweet is that?
Guaranteed no sales presentation of any kind. Said it would take 1-1.5 hrs and...
I would be paid $50!
Sounds like easy money to me.
I live in the Greater Los Angeles area which is probably geographically desirable due to the large pool of riders available.
I'm sure others here will be given the same opportunity if they are near large metro areas.
Anyway that's the deal. I go May 3rd@ 2pm.

Hey Primo: You sure that aint your 1000 mile service appointment.....you know...takes 1.5 hours you pay them $350 and then they pay you $50 for your opinion of the $300 service.
I've been on it about a year now. Pretty simple...not much questions on customer service yet. I've received 2 bandanas and a travel kit of cleaning supplies. It doesn't take a long time to do the questions. I've enjoyed being part of it so far. As you can tell from others, they like to see buying patterns, where you purchase the products, etc.
