Riding in the car as a passenger headed to Houston this evening on the highway we had a black Kawasaki pass us on the shoulder doing at least 95 mph. He almost clipped the truck behind us. I observed him passing two more cars like that. He slowed down coming to an overpass and let his two riding buddies catch up with him who were driving in the left lane and they exited the highway. They got stopped at a red light and then pulled into a service station. We pulled in about 30 seconds later. When I got out of the car I started to say something but figured why bother. They were in their early twenties and would be immune to anything I would say. I thought to myself as I walked away that it was a shame they might not survive their youth. Surprised I survived mine. This is the second time this year that these kids on sport bikes have pulled this crap around me. Would you have handled it different?

I have said something before and it seems to fall on deaf ears! Some think they are invincible but we know that is not true... it takes that first spill or unfortunatley an accident that hopefully is not ride ending! lessons learned the hard way are still lessons learned!!!
I see it all the time with the kids coming out to the track (at least they are taking the first step and getting it off the street.) I don't think they fully understand just how bad it can be when a bike hits the ground. They've never seen someone life flighted out or carted away in a bus, or worse. The first time they see someone go down on the track is usually an eye opener for them. They either start to understand, or they become a statistic. It's kind of funny. A good portion of my racing and track day buddies also own cruisers or something other then a sport bike for the street (if they have a street bike at all.) They completely "get" me buying a Harley to cruise around and have fun on and share the same opinion of the Biker Boyz wanna be's that the rest of the world has as well.

And just think of all of the concerned citizens who almost said something to you about riding motorcycles.

Ohhhh there are plenty out there who want to tell me how dangerous motorcycles are, been ridin since I was a youngster, but the difference is.....I am not doin stupid crap like some of these guys are doin....just sayin!!!!
It is one of the faults of youth to think that one is invincible.
I agree there is nothing that you could have said or done that would have made them listen and see reason.
the only thing that I can think of would be that if they would be rising like that and one of them would be taken out by a car that does not expect the wild manouvers they were pulling off, then maybe they would realize their suicidal tendencies, but not even then am i sure.
I think you handled it right.

Unfortunately, the only way these kids will learn or mature is either to see or be involved in a serious accident.
I was in some slow moving traffic (around 15 mph) on I-95 a few weeks ago. A metric was weaving around cars and cutting them off. You know some of the cagers had to be pissed. All it takes is one tap from a pissed of cager and your down for the count.
