Default Gps

I just installed a GPS on my bike. While I like the idea of taking off and getting lost I've done it one too many times. As a member of the PGR and WWR we do missions in areas I'm unfamiliar with and I usually end up not knowing how to get home. My internal compass is broken. A GPS became a necessity for me. Who else relies on one? Got to admit if feels a little wrong to put it on my ride but like I said, I need it.

On a bike? Not me... too dangerous. But for those that want to use them they obviously come in handy I'm sure.

I have a Garmin SP 2610 I have had for about 5 years.
Use it in my dually, used it in my boat when I had one, used it on my '06 Sporty and now use it on my Heritage too.
I am also a PGR member and they come in handy.
And for those that say it's too dangerous, , they obviously have never used one.
Just set your route and go. An occassional glance, like looking at your speedo or tach is all that is required.
No playing with the buttons, etc., is needed...

I've never had a problem finding places I need to go, nor getting lost. But, I'm getting a GPS when finances make it doable. I just like precision, and the GPS should give me that. Being a former pilot of sophisticated airplanes, I like having electronics do my thinking for me.

I'm too new to this and need to keep my attention on the road ahead of me.

This may be a dumb question as that I have never used a gps but if I was out riding and lost all sense of my location and had a flat would I be able to turn on my gps and direct a tow truck to where I am?

Depends on the unit. I've had both Garmin and a Tom Tom. Both of them had a "where am I" feature. It would show a map and your location. Also push another button to find the nearest gas, hospital, restaurant, vehicle repair shop and police station. They are VERY handy.

I do own one, but have not used it on the bike. I have been in other states with those that had one on their bike and it did come in handy.

Even a cheap one will do that. It displays a map with your location. I have 4 cages and 3 bikes and they all have a Gps except for the Sportie. I don't go too far on that bike.

My GPS follows me from vehicle to vehicle. Personally, I enjoy the technology!!
