There are just a lot more newer bikes in existance so, there are a lot more for sale. I think there are probably more "panic" sales of some of the newer bikes that may be financed just to get out of the debt. Most older bikes won't be financed so, may not have as much selling pressure. If you don't have to sell right now, may be better oportunity later.

Kelly Blue Book show prices between U$5000 and U$6900 for your bike - presumably that is with basic mods. Since those Those prices may start to soften over the next while. May get a better price if you can find a Canadian buyer - won't have the hassle of import/export and Canadian prices might be a bit higher.

Good luck.

"Is this because no one likes the newer iron? "

It's just all the rubs on this site lost their jobs & the rest are just posers that are ready for a new hobby

Ya, it's easy to think about selling when it's sitting in the garage waiting for spring, But once I fire it back up & ride it, Things will change again. I had no thoughts of selling it last year because it rode nice. Late fall is when the clutch's packed it in so I pulled it off the road & started pulling it apart. I was guessing on around $500 in total but as it came apart, the cost went up. I spent around $1500 by the time I was finished but just replacing the drive belt is a bit of a wrench-a-thon with these bikes so I just kept pulling parts until everything looked good.
at least when it roll's out this spring, the only down time should be oil changes!

+1 There are a lot of loan defaults left over form the "Ride Free" zero down payment promotion the MoCo is saddled with as well. Plus the number of bikes produced and sold from 2000 forward is much higher. Many many garage queens to be had out there.

You have a nice bike....what would you want to sell it for? You aren't going to get much more thrill out of a new one...unless you want a different model.

Not compare to the late 80's and early 90's Bikes. Harley talks about the all new frame for the touring line, But I would bet that 99% of the averges person's riding style wouldnt even need these changes. But then again, I know how to fix everything on my Bikes so that may bias my opinion.
You're kiddin right? The twinkies haven't had any more issues than any given model year in the past. None of the Harleys have ever been as good as they could be from the factory...that's why there are aftermarket parts.

Maybe that is also the reason there are so many high $$$$$$$$$ factory parts also available. I think it is referred to as DOUBLE DIPPING
Somebody has got it right, I couldn't get close to the parts counter last Saturday.

Hey Monster, my point exactly, His 1988 has already had all the "factory problems" and probably has been modified to his liking. Why stary over? Plus the initial quality of HD was at its best during the mid to lat 80's. Those early Evos are probably the best Harley ever made. That and I don't remember them having any of the expensive problems like the twinikes do, like replacing cam chain tensioners. But like I said I don't remember, could be wrong.....no I take that back I am never wrong...

all this info is awesome! this site is valuable to me for this reason. i like lots of different opinions, Im getting answers to tech questions as I get up to speed 7 although not every one agree's on some things, there isnt alot of attitude, Just good info & some very interesting avatar!
Im starting to think that I should just ride the old iron bitch for a few more years. I dont have payments, & it's got a whack of new parts that wont need re doing for years now!
