Default Custom Paint: candy or pearl?

Fixing to paint my softail custom , probably in a dark blue. Not alot of experience w/ paint. Which would look better a pearl or candy? Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

I guess it would depend on the color but I really like candy on a bike. Just makes it POP!

Done by the right painter, Candy looks the best to me. It's not easy to get it to look its best. If your going for blue, think about Deep Cobalt. I had an old Shadow painted Deep Cobalt Blue by a local guy.. Damn did that thing look good. It's a little more expensive, as paint goes, but you won't regret it.

Kandies will have bigger flake and more depth, certain colors will show more depth than others. Pearls will give you more flip/flop. Kandy will be more expensive and if you ever get a chip or dent that needs to be fixed it'll be much more involved to repair and paint plus it will be harder to duplicate the color. There's a lot of nice dark blue pearls to choose from and honestly dark blue kandies won't show a ton of depth anyway so if you're going dark blue I'd stick with a pearl. I paint for a living so if you have any questions I'd be happy to answer them. Larry

Pearl is nice, but Candy is Dandy. I don't think you will go wrong with either. I had mine painted candy blue and love the look. The only regret I have is that I wish now I would have had the whole bike done in candy blue metal flake instead of just the flames.

Default Go Candy mate..

Hi Roadkingfatboy, my painter in Philly is just finishing mine off (clear going on as we speak) and I'm (obviously) a big fan of his work!
We wanted a dark colour that looked almost black from 10 feet or more away but as you got closer, you could see more detail. More sun/light meant more detail and less light meant less detail etc so it almost looked black.
Do yourself a favour and go Candy....
This was 80% Black candy and 20% copper Molten candy...

Let me know your thoughts...

From about 8 feet away...

Candy is a translucent midcoat.
Pearl is put into basecoats, and maybe midcoats.

You can do both. A white pearl basecoat with blue candy over it would look good.
