vivid black paint turn to dull black when drying????
I have a fender i am painting, did all the prep work. sprayed with primer. over the last 2 days i have sprayed 3 coats of vivid black. it has looked great. today i sprayed a final coat before wet sanding, buffing and clear.
the 4th coat is drying a dull black. looks almost like flat black. why is this?? paint sprays on vivid black.
is it related to humidity? it is pouring rain today, but this done in my garage...

I dont know much about painting but, Ive ALWAYS heard never ever paint when its raining. Not much help I know but just my .02
I have painted and found that my fire engine red came out kind of dull when it dried until I put the clear coat on it and then it really popped. I never paint when it is raining either (do a lot of my paining in the garage too). Maybe you will see it come back when you put the clear coat on it.
4 coats of paint is an awful lot. You end up with solvent trapped in the lower layers and invite a number of problems.
As for the dull look... that depends if you're using a single stage or base/clear. If the latter, it will be nice and shiny when you shoot your clear. However, you mention getting ready to sand and buff after your fourth coat of black, which makes me assume you're using a single stage.
If you're using a single stage, too much film build (due to too many coats), heavy coats, inadequate flash time between coats... all of those can lead to dye back/dulling. If that's the case, you can get the shine back by sanding and buffing... but, if you're film build is significant, you may end up with some cracking.
I dont know about rattle can paint but in school my teachers always told me to never wait anymore then 24hrs between coats because the poors seal up and if u wait that long you should sand an reshoot another coat but I dont think thats your problem I would wet sand it with a 1000 grit and clear it and it should come out alright. Hope that helps
