My local CU is currently as low as 4.9%. I refinanced my bike last summer and my payments dropped about $40/mo from 10.9%. I had 36 months left to pay on my bike when I did the refi and went with a 36 month term.
Around here the cheapest is 5.9% for 60 months and 6.9% for 72 months...Both at a credit union. A lot of the dealers around here also deal with credit unions, not just Harley Financial. Like others have said, do your homework ahead of time so you're prepared at the dealer.
The problem with a 'good' FICO score over a 'great' FICO score is typically requiring money down to have skin in the game. Remember, motorcycles are a 'luxury' item. Not required and is typically considered in the same group as a boat.
Good luck and there has been a lot of good suggestions here so far.
how about a line of credit taken off your home loan?? low payments, pay it off when you can, and a tax deduction too...
It's usually not a good idea to tie toys, vacations etc to your home. That's a big part of how we got into the mess we're in now. People owe 250K on a house worth 100K, they've got an F-350, 2 Harley's and a boat. And will get the government guaranteed mortgage reduction plan so they don't lose their house.
If the OP put his location in the upper right hand "location" tab, we could give some geographic location specifics.
In Tampa, BayGulf Credit Union LOVES Harley's and always finances them lower than any other "toy". I got 3.99% in April of '05 for 60 months.
I got a good rate through H-D financial, it was a year ago and I also have Excellent credit. I was amazed when the said the would finance me for up to 6 years and my 1984 FXRT, I thought they were out of there mind financing a 24yo. motorcycle, but it sounded good on my end.
