I was hit and run when I was 20. Luckily for me, an other driver got the license plate of the guy who hit me.
I think the penalties ought to be stiffer for hit and runners... say... buy me a new to replace the old, pay all my doctors bills, pay pain and suffering, forfeiture of license for say... 5 years, and if you can't afford all the above, then we'll think of something really drastic to do to you.
I have absolutly no sympathy for hit and run drivers.
With my recent accident, that's sort of what happend to me.
A person trying to make an illegal left turn caused another vehicle to slam on their brakes, which in turn caused me to do the same, only I didn't stop in time and hit the car in front of me. The cops were NOT concerned at all about the guy making the illegal turn, and everyone who witnessed the accident told the cops about the person making the illegal turn, but no one got the plate number.
The cops did nothing to try and find this person, but instead wanted to give me a citation for following too close to the car in front of me.
After going back and forth with the idiots, they agreed to NOT give me a ticket but still were not at all concerned about the illegal left turn. And when I say illegal left turn, the person stopped in the traffic lane and was attemping to turn left over an island in the center of the highway. When they realized they caused the accident, they took off and did not make the left turn.

I am sorry for what has happen to this biker. Listening to his friend being interviewed, you can tell he is very upset about the whole incident. Praying for everyone involved.
I feel so bad for these guys. I get the feeling that even if the hit and run driver gets a long sentence in some far away hell hole that it still won't come close to making this right. Not even close.
It's hard to grasp a hit and run like this. Let's see, you've just run over some biker messing him up real bad. You don't stop you just keep going. And never mind looking in the rear view mirror seeing a plume of smoke that was once the guy's bike. Let's just keep driving. I don't get it.
What I do get is there ought to be some special form of punishment for our model citizens who think hit and run is just part of the daily drive.
