I went to the HD Dealer here in Syracuse, just to see if they had the fat mini-apes, with plans on buying just them. They started presuring me into having them do the work, so I listened. When he told me the price I almost fell over - just under $1500 to install, adjust, new cables, internal wires.

I went home in shock, ordered the bars and risers from Chic. HD, took me about 2hrs to install everything. I'll never go back there for anything.

That's about what I was quoted to put taller bars on my 09 Ultra. I had it itemized and the cost was mainly in the msrp price of the cables, especially the ABS brake cable, if I remember right, that cable alone was around $300-$350. So left mine alone.

Do it yourself. You'll feel better, keep money in your pocket and learn about your bike all at the same time.

Of course, if you don't have tools, a garage, time or mechanical ability...Go to an Indy. You'll find much better prices and more reliable work at a good Indy. They actually value your time and money as a customer (usually).

Buddy of mine was quoted a similar price from a dealer here, the local Indy was just as bad, he decided to keep the bars he has.

Last time I installed apes it cost me only a couple a hundred dollars. Ordered the parts here and there and did it myself. If they want 1100 dollars for it, they are putting it to you. Of course I don't have a new fancy schmancy building with neon lights to pay for either. Those new fancy building sure look purdy and makes my Harley ride so much better. If you can't do it yourself, go to an Indy.

do it yourself ,I did the apes on my RK ,bleeding the brakes and everything took just under 4 hours. You probably already have the service manual for your bike, the parts manual comes in handy too,[has all those exploded views of assemblies] you can do it.
