Yeah I got the manual and really wouldn't have a problem getting into the engine. I just have the first time jitters but at least I would know that it was put back right. But taking in consideration what Hogginit said I did install the Chrome engine kit last winter myself but all torque settings were checked and double checked so I don't think my heads would be leaking internally.

Dang! 2000 bike and <10,000 miles! Gaskets are prolly dried out! Ride that puppy 'til the leak gets bad enough you can see reconstituted dinosaurs following you.

its an 04 I bought last year and it had only 3500 miles on it. Ive put a few on it now that it has 9200 in a year. So that's probably not it.

I would drain out the syn oil and put back whatever brand you had and then do it as a Winter project when you have the time.

I jus' throw a couple 'dinos' in the sissybar bag. Gonna need 'em sooner or later.

Mine are STILL macho scoots, they MARK & CLAIM their territory. NOT some pitiful sissy bike that pulls in, and then leaves, and NONE of the other scoots, will know it was even there.

A GOOD Harley is jus' like a GOOD dog. Let's everyone know WHO was here, and WHO the Boss is.

Course, you could always jus' put a Depends on the "OLD" boy.

In this months AIM, Donny has an excellent article, concerning weeps, leaks and base gasket probs. NOW, TAKE NOTE, the article concerns the probs going on with the 110's. BUT some of the info would be pertinent in this thread.
Not sure if you can get ALL of Donny's articles on line.
Sorry, don't feel like getting into a 5 paragraph disortation 'bout it, right now.

Default technition's opinion

Well just had a technition look at it at local dealer and he said first to try to go back to convential oil and see if that don't fix it. He said it was pretty common on evo's and pretty rare on tc but not impossible to happen. also said most of the time on the evo's regular oil would usally fix the small pin hole leak. Not sure about the tech's credits because of one statement that he made "awe hell they all leak a little." but I know quite a few people with newer twin cams and none of them have any leaks at all and are running synthetic oil either harley, mobile 1, or amsiol. Any Techs out there agree or disagree with this local dealer.

My 98 is an Evo. Like I posted earlier, she weeps around the back rocker box gasket. I am running Mobil 1 V-Twin oil which is a syn. Been running Mobile 1 for over five years. I would not switch back to dino oil at all. I noticed a 20 degree temp drop when I switched both bikes. Heat is an engine killer in air cooled engines. Get Donny Peterson's book on Harley's. He is one of the smartest and most sensible mechanics around. If I lived in Canada he would do all of my major engine work or upgrades. Opinions are like ********--everyone has one .

The only thing switching to syn oil did was clean all of the crud out that built up from the dino oil while it was sitting with the previous owner. The crud was the bandaide keeping it from leaking. The syn oil will not do anything harmful to the evo engine once the gaskets are replaced. Mine hasn't leaked since I replaced my gaskets.....& I also threw in syn oil.

I like syn oil on a hot engine will clean right up. But dino oil on a hot engine will be there like a burn mark.

is it possible for this to clear it self out and stop leaking or will it just get worse. Need some opinions here. What if regular oil doesn't leak, use to work on the old evo why not on a twin cam.
