Marine motorcycle club doesn't forget injured veteran
Ohio
CLEVELAND (AP) -- The marine corps motto Semper Fi means "Always Faithful," and a group of retired marines are holding true to that tradition.
Members of the retired Marine's Leathernecks Motor Club rolled up to Dan and Lisa Priestly's Parma home yesterday to give the landscaping a makeover.
When they left, Priestly had over six-thousand dollars in new landscaping, as well as a swing set for his two children.
Priestly is a Marine recovering from severe leg injuries he received fighting in Iraq.
Members of the motorcycle club also presented him with a new Harley Davidson motorcycle.
Priestly says he plans to ride with the club during a rally in support of the troops today.
I was a platoon doc...grunt line corpsman 65 -66 and WIA in Nam. Got out for 4 years and re-upped USAF and stayed 23 there...I never let that USMC green wash off and never want to! All the services are great at what they do and all have pride in their service and their uniits...but...One a Marine/Always a Marine, and...Once a "Doc"/Always a Doc....and the one thing the other services don;t have, and that no one other than another Marine or FMF Doc is...."Semper Fi"!!!
Note to NMFXSTC: Howdy from a Brother Doc. Worked Med-Evac units and hospitals overseas 69-70. Wasn't a "Bush Corpsman", we just tried to keep them alive after you did your best for them in the bush.
Of all the titles I've ever held, the one that means the most to me and the one I carry with the most pride is "Doc".
One quick "Doc" story: Had a patient who was a young Lance Corporal at a med-evac hospital and myself and another Corpsman had to put sutures in his arm. The wound was really jagged and we both knew that he'd have a helluva scar, but he kept his arm.
So, fast forward about three years- I'm off active duty, going to college and tending bar in a biker bar in Terre Haute, Indiana. I go outside to catch some fresh air and on the way back in I see this guy staring at me. I'm thinking "Oh no, maybe I inadvertently looked at his woman" as he approaches me. He says "You don't remember me, do you Doc?" I didn't until he pulled up his sleeve and showed me this hellacious scar. I said "Lance Corporal", and we hugged and toasted each other, the Marine Corps, and Chesty Puller for about two days.
Over the past thirt-six years I've run across a few guys that I worked on. It was my privilege to have been there for them.

If it weren't for a "Doc", I wouldn't be here today. My second PH as a 19 year old "short timer" put me in the hospital for over 6 months. But I made it thanks to a Corpsman who had his head and *** wired together. I'll always be grateful.
