First, GLAD you are amongst the 'survivors club'. Welcome. Here's to a qwik and complete rebound.
We have begun "serious" negotiations on 'bucket wear' here. Been seeing a VERY large amount of 'un-nerving' behavior from the cages this winter and spring. Actually, I am more in favor of it, than she is.
Sounds like scoot is okay for the 'wear and tear' on it.
Good of the fellow rider to get in there, and 'help' you out. Draggin' 'em onto the flatbed is jus' flat azzed "fugly".

Default Bitchung About Hemet Laws

I see a lot of people in threads bitchin about hemet laws. I myself have been wearing a novelty helmet, after hearig stories like yours and a few others around here 2 days ago I decided to go back to my DOT. Funny thing, my wife left the bedroom tv on last night and I woke up at 4:30 this morning to the tail end of a Cops episode where they were chasing an idiot on a bike and he crashed wearing a novelty helmet, cracked the thing in half and bashed in his skull. He was still alive and being transported by helicopter to a major trauma center. Hmm, is sombody trying to tell me something? Of course I don't plan on being chased by any LEOs, but I usually do drive a bit fast on the highway.

I crashed the RK into a Neon last thursday. I went for a putt after work and was stopped at a stop sign in a little burg south of here. I looked left, then right, but didn't look left again. As I started to move, all of a sudden there was this little car. My reflexes must have taken over as I managed to get the bike going the same direction as the car, then bailed off to the right, hitting my right shoulder pretty hard and scarfing the helmet a bit. I rolled onto my feet, got my bearings and went over to the car to make sure the folks were ok; they were. The statie and the EMTs got there real quick expecting the worst, and there I was getting the bike off the road with some help.

I ended up with a type 11 AC shoulder separation, but avoided being transported. By now the pain and stiffness was going full bore and I couldn't reach anybody I knew to come out and ride it home (she's almost unscathed to the casual observer) so I had to call for a tow. Lucky I stayed cause the tow truck was going to drag the bike onto the rollback. Finally, some dude on a dirtbike showed up, and he rode it on to the rollback for me. We laid it on a blanket my wife had, and managed to get her home safely.

I have to watch it better in the future. To you guys who don't like helmets, this would have been a lot worse if I hadn't had it on. As it is I'll probably be back on the road in a month or so.

Be careful out there.

Thanks for sharing the story and the the outcome. Glad you didn't have any major injuries to yourself or your bike (though, it's amazing how much even minor damage costs on our favorite brand!). Good thing about the helmet too. BTDT (Been There, Done That). Heal up quickly, so that you may be out on the road again soon!

Just thinking out loud.
I have decided I am going to fight the failure to yield citation. Visibility is poor at this intersection, only north & southbound have to stop & and there's a 45 mph limit. I figure the big trees and utility poles that block the view east from where I was stopped are probably only about 100 - 150 yds from the intersection. The car did nothing wrong, but even with the reflexes of a 19 year old (which this young lady was), you can't stop a car doing 45 in that distance. There has already been one fatality there this year.

On a better note, the doc says I'll be ok and I felt good enough today that I took a short putt today to see how she rode. She's ok. I'll probably buy the parts and spin the wrenches myself.

I have a full face Shoei, but I was wearing a 3/4 HJC. If you've ever seen ER photos of a lidless rider who rode his face into the pavement like I have, you'd want the full face for a while. When I started riding my latest HD last spring, I hung my full face up, but now I'm wondering. After 37 years on two wheels, I have to say trying to look cool was never why I rode.

To me, the new breed of cagers are getting more dangerous every day. When I started riding, it was a different world. Back then probably only 25% of them were oblivious, today it's more like 75% around here.

Not trying to preach, the choice ought to be up the the individual.
