Should I Replace Bearings
Well I am about to do my 60,000 mile service on my 02' RKC. I have to replace both tires so should I also do the wheel bearings? I did a search to find out how long the bearings are really supposed to last, but came up with different opinions. Some suggest 50,000 and others 100,000. I'll probably be riding this bike at least another 25,000 miles...should I replace the wheel bearings or not?

This is probably one of those deals that if you don't, you'll wish you would have, and if you do, you will never know how long the old ones would have lasted. I would rather be safe than sorry myself!

My `89 Softail has 115,000 miles on the origional wheel bearings, when I change the tires or have the wheels off for any reason, I clean, inspect and repack the bearings. No reason to replace them unless they are bad.

So do you replace the seals every time or can you share a good method for removal without damaging them?

Duh, just realized I`m comparing apples to oranges, my bike has the old style timken wheel bearings, and you folks are talking about the later sealed bearings...Doh!... But yes, I change the seals every time.

You can pop the seals off of some bearings,but most likely the seal will get damaged in the process.I would only do this as a last resort.
I would at least check them when you get the wheels off and go from there.
