Default need some input

just traded my 04 fxd for a 06 street glide. went back to the stealer for warrenty work. bike had some spuddering and decel pop. make a long story short they say i need a power commander installed. only has a stage 1. with rihnehart td's. and this is going to cost me over 800.00 ben's. this is the way i bought it from them. do i cave and pay or is the dealer responsible to make sure the bike is set up right. and i might have some leverage now. they allready sold my old bike. today in the mail i got the title to the old bike. i need some input.

Some type of fuel management will be a good call. Several types to choose from and much less expensive if you do it yourself. Is it absolutely necessary? No. Desirable? Yes. Want it to run the best it can then do it. Is the dealer responsible? Not in my opinion. But my wife says I've been wrong before.

The bike should have been tested when the dealer took it in as a trade and before they sold it. It's up to the dealer to make it run correctly. Now they want you to spend your hard earned money for something they should have fixed before they sold it. Make the stealer fix it on his nickel since they obviously didn't give it a thorough check up and service before they sold it to you. JMHO

Your cheapest option will be to put in a stock air filter (about $35). You will lose a little power but your sputtering and popping will most likely be gone.

The next cheapest option would be a stage one download from the dealer, about $150. You might talk him into doing it for free.

The best option is a Power Commander, about $320. Maybe you can talk the dealer into throwing it in for free or selling it to you at cost. At the least the dealer should do something to help you fix the problem.

my bad. i wasnt offered nor did i ask for a test ride. my buddy has an 06 that ive ridin before plus it was in the low 40s out and not dressed for it. shame on on me there. on the way home yes there was some decel pop but not bad. the spuddering i realy only noticed around home, like in the school zones at 25 mph. the dealer was going to give me a break. 15% off the parts and eat most of the dyno time. WOW. i get 15% off every thing i buy at my local dealer. one service tech over herd one of or pissing matches and suggested bigger fuel injecters and retune the program. this was done finaly at no cost. still not right.

Some of the early '06 models had 8 deg. injectors which lead to problems.I think they switched them out with 25 deg. injectors.Something to check on.

I think it should be the dealerships responsibility to make sure the bike is running correctly since you did not do the stage 1 work yourself.
