This is a commentary on how some people don't know the history of motorcycles and clubs. Was at a local dealership yesterday and I was talking to one of the lady's that has worked there for years now. Had a patch holder from a 1% club walk up and ask her a question. She gave him an answer and as he walked away she made a comment about his question. I commented that he was a long away from home because of his bottom rocker. She had no clue to what his colors meant or who he was. This is the second time that I have ran across someone that works around bikes or rides who doesn't know who the local clubs are, much less the 1% ers. Surprising since they got their start just a county over. As we rode by a guarded gate, I had to explain what the prospects were doing guarding a gate last weekend to someone. Had another couple a few years back that just got off of a Goldwing make a commit on the weapons they spotted at a local event. They were spooked and had left early. When I questioned them about where they were and what the patch's said they described a local cop group patch. I was laughing to myself again. Sometimes people still amaze me.

 

This post amazes me. I am sorry I read it as I will never get those 2 minutes back.

I have been riding for 30 plus years. I have no clue what "colors or patches" mean, what clubs are in my area, or care what a "1%er" thinks or does.

Does this mean I amaze you?

I guess I'm ignorant, too, as I really have no idea "who's who" and what the colors and patches really mean even though I've been riding for a while now. It's not like the information is right out there for everybody to learn...in fact anytime it comes up, there are usually posts with comments like "best not to talk about that", etc..

Frankly, I don't care. They can do their thing and I'll do mine.

 

who really gives a rat's *** about 1%ers or riders sporting colors? Just another group of people who ride and ones that I would just as soon steer clear from. Yeah, I know what and who they are....does this make me a better biker? or someone who doesn't less? and as far as people who work in bike shops...now a days...all they have to know is what page to find a part on in the Harley catalog. Most don't have a clue about customizing if it isn't offered up in the Harley catalog. I've had some tell me that if it says it doesn't fit in the catalog than that's the final word.....THAT is what I find naive. I want the old days back when there were actually bikers with ingenuity and thought outside the box...and a harley was just the bike you bought and looked elsewhere for customizing it. I say SCREW the Willie Skull Collection...THAT is NOT custom. It's Harley Marketing.

It's a sign of the times boater, Back in the early 60s when I started riding if you saw more then two or three guys on bikes riding together they were probley in a club. It wasn't a status type thing to ride and if you had a club in your area you interacted with them. Now most motorcycle owners ride once a month to Applebys and never come into contact with a club. Times they are a changin!

 

Funny, I ride pretty much every day and generally go for a nice ride in the country on the weekends and I almost never run into or even see anybody with an MC patch. A couple of times a year I'll see a few guys with MC colors but that's about it. Maybe it's different in other parts of the country, but that's just been my experience here in CA.
