Today, I noted my right slip-on was loose. I tightened the muffler clamp, and it wouldn't cinch the pipe down. I pulled it off and you can see what I found. Gack!
These pipes were installed by my dealer about this time last year when I had the Stage 1 installed. They are HD Screamin' Eagle One-Piece Slash Down Performance Mufflers - Part #64903-99 (Fits '95-later FLHT, FLHR, and FLTR models). I really love these pipes and after 9,000 miles, they were sounding great.
I don't know if they were cracked at installation, were a bad casting or what. The bike has only seen rain once and it's garage kept and babied.
I took them off and re-installed my stock pipes for now. I'll be calling the dealer tomorrow AM to see what they will do about getting me a new set.
Holy crap...my bike has been out in the rain a bunch, I hope I don't see anything like this. I don't even have the original mufflers anymore. Hope they stand by 'em, let us know.
Wow ...are you sure they were'nt used before you purchased them.Hard to believe all that damage took place in only 1 year time, unless like previously mentioned some sort of electrolysis took place. I'm sort of dubtful about the leak theory, but would'nt totally rule that out either.
I've read a few posts of SE II rot. Thats pretty bad.
My SEII are 5 months old and one of the mufflers are already flaking and pitting. They are cleaned, polished and waxed once a week and yet they are not holding up. On another note, I've had Tawain made Emgo's teardrops repro's on old Triumphs that held up for 5+ years and still looked brand new!
