You could always do like I do and just ride old pans that require you to kick-start the bike ...

That being said I think EricD's post on the alarm system is probably one of the better security systems I have seen as of late. And you might check with your insurance company to see if you can get a discount for an added security system.

Suppose a well determined thief can overcome most security systems and barring you sleeping next to it with a Colt 45 there is no absolute steal-proof bike. Maybe until you can afford a place with an enclosed garage, the 2 minute drive might be better peace of mind.

If a thief wants your ride he will find a way to take it from you. Update your insurance and contemplate installing lojack on it. When these guys steal heavy bikes they don't ride them off, they lift them with some sort of lift and basically sling them away.

You live on ground level? Can you pull both bikes in your living room at night??? Alarms and locks are all deterants, but it still only takes a couple guys, a pickup, a trailer, and a few minutes to get that baby out of there...

I think the way your doing it now is the best, next to pulling in the bike in your appartment at night!

An idea would be to rent a garage nearby where you can store the bikes or do as we did in college and by an older trailer, park it where you can chain it to a tree or light pole or even jack it just enough to take the weight off the tires then let the air out of the tires and put the bikes in there locked up.

Buy an old box van or utility vehicle or enclosed trailer. Park it in your spot and ensure that it will not start and cannot be driven/towed away easily. Park your bike inside this vehicle.

Well I live on the third floor so pulling it into the apt is a no. As for low jack I am an officer, and I am not at all impressed with low jack systems. I am a very light sleeper and the bike would be right under my window with a clear shot to take with my assault rifle. It's just the days I go to work I am worried about.

I feel your pain. I worry anytime I take mine out and have to leave it unattended. I've been also contemplating about installing lojack on mine and it's a big pill to swallow at 1000.00. It's good to hear it's not worth it. I guess we just have to quit worrying about it and just do what we can to make it difficult for these bastages that want to take what's not theirs. I guess we make sure our insurance is paid up and make sure they have up to date pics of your accessories.

By the way, thank you for your service and for putting your life on the line for all of us. All of you in uniform don't get enough credit..

sounds to my like you need to move to a better neighborhood, or at least to a ground level unit.
