. . . now I want one. Tested an '09 Road King Classic yesterday. I liked it - a lot.
I was comfortable, the bike handled well and now I'm Jones'n for one of these.
My only problem I had was when I finished my ride, both hands were numb. Particularly the right one. And I got a real sharp pain in my hip at the last stop (btch getting old). Never had any of this on the Deluxe. I noticed my riding position on the King was; tail up, arms low and at an odd angle to grip the handles. While I couldn't flatfoot, I had no problem holding up the bike.
If I get one of these, I thought of setting it up like a Road King Custom minus lowering it. I think just modifying the seat, or switching to the Sundowner, and using beach bars may stop the numbness and pain. Or even the bars used on the Electra Glide models - I found these to be real comfortable as well.
Anybody else run into similar problems and what helped you? Thanks for the help!
I like my 09 RKC except for the stock exhaust(V/H slip-ons,,on the way) and the handle bars. I get upper shoulder pain, so will need something that is more comfortable, heard alot of good stuff on the Chubby's 518's
Tom from http://harleygoodies.com/ here. I find that the stock bars on all bikes have ridiculous angles for your wrists. I always change the bars out as one of the first mods. Some low apes would be far more comfortable than the stock bars, or some beach bars. I like for my wrists to be facing forward, not to the side. There are plenty of seats that will lower you a bit as well. Get a mean city cycles seat mod and you should be comfy. Moving the floorboards out to the side a bit has also been a proven method to increase your comfort.

Gotta say, I really can't argue with that. I got back on the Deluxe and all was well. Rode for 2 more hours and none of the numbness or nonsence. Who knows, maybe I really did strike gold first time 'round.
Sleeko, I have the Wild 1 RK pullbacks and they solved my shoulder pain problems. The other thing I wanted to tell you was that you might want to let your seat break in before you change it. When I first got my RK I couldn't sit flat-footed. After a couple of months though the seat broke in and I am now able to sit flat-footed easily and I'm only 5'8". I also think the stock seat is plenty comfortable for me. I've ridden it for several hundred miles in one day countless times with no complaints.
