My mother had her elbow done and started using it a little too fast. She damaged the connection of the joint and now they are hesitant to do anything more with it. Take your time, that scoot is a very patient mistress, she will wait for you!
i ride with a fake hip....done 3 years ago...took four weeks to walk without a cane....rode on the 5th week....dont push, your body will let you know when...work on strength in the hip muscle....mine is titanium, doc says it should go 20yrs....occasionally i have pain but not bone/bone pain...i can tell when the muscle is weak or worn down...other'n that, it changed my life for the good
My buddy had his left hip replaced 8 months ago and he is up and riding now. But the first few times out on the bike he got a weird pain in the joint. The doctor said it was the vibration from the bike resonating into the joint and that he would eventually get use to it. duane5157
thanks for all the info folks. Bryan, did you by chance get your left hip replaced, that was the one i had replaced and i was just concearned because i stand on my left hip and throw my right leg over the bike when i get on and i have to do a twisting motion with my hips to do that, that might not be good for the hip? any suggestions or comments?
My friend had his replaced Dec 31st, 08 & was at the cycle show with me in NYC on 1/19 & walked the whole show slowly. After 5 weeks he started hitting golf ***** at the range. After 8 weeks he was playing golf & riding his bike. Give it a little more time.
Yesterday was 9 weeks since a full replacement of my right hip. Mine is metal on metal cobalt chrome.
Started riding about 3 weeks ago. Just short rides.....maybe 20-40 minutes or so. No issues at all. No pain going over bumps like before and better range of motion in my right leg.
Back to work about 3 weeks ago 1/2 days. Full days starting yesterday.
I ride to work most days (12 miles) and on weekends. Still just short trips.
Most important that you continue with exercises to strengthen your leg muscles and retrain them to walk normal.
I still get a little sore if I over-do it......but I expect it will be a couple of more months to get back to 100%.
It's a slow go for me because I lost about 25 lbs. right after surgery. Gained back about 15 and feel stronger now.
glad to hear you are doing well mstngjoe. Seems like I better cool my heals a little and give it a few more weeks. Thats going to be tough with the nice weather though.

Had my left hip done March 9. Riding bike again after about 4 to 5 weeks, but only after my Doc. gave the OK. It is great to be free of that cronic pain. Take your time, do your exercises, and listen to your Doc., and you will be riding soon.

no it was my right hip...since i lean the bike and rest on the left leg at stop i have no experience with weight on the replaced hip just after surgery....now it wouldnt bother me at all as i think my replaced hip, muscle and leg are stronger than the original equipment but in the beginning i wouldnt have wanted to ....as for it twisting, no prob at all...its lots stronger than you think and will take abuse(i've jumped over a fence and out of the pickup bed several times)...i think just from how it feels the key is to strengthen the hip muscle...it was stretched way out during the surgery
