I haven't been on here for awhile but I thought I would you a last remark. I am leaving for good. Before you start sending hate mail, I won't be reading any responses. So go ahead if it makes you feel better. Anyway, here goes. I bought my first and only Harley two years ago. It was the worst investment I ever made. Not only did I purchase it, I spent over $5000.00 in upgrades. I just sold it for $17000.00 and I had over $27000.00 invested. It was an ultra classic. After riding it for two years, I am here to tell you that it is the most uncomfortable bike I have ever ridden. My wife and I rode the skyline drive/blue ridge parkway all the way to the end. I thought I would die. Now keep in mind, I'm not just a weekend rider that over extended himself. I ride a lot. That ride was over 700 miles one way. It wasn't even hot outside but the bike "burnt me up". I sword when I got back I was going to find a bike that was more comfortable or I would quit riding. Now don't get me wrong, I really liked my Harley. This isn't just a Harley bashing. There are "some" good things about Harley, being comfortable just isn't one of them. I bought a Yamaha Venture and rode it to the PA. grand canyon, what a bike. Comfortable, cool, easier to handle. Yes, I am old and I like comfort. To those of you that want to say, " go ahead ride a rice burner, get off this forum and join a Yamaha forum", don't worry I am gone. If this post offends you, oh well. Some day you will ride a nice confortable bike and you , too, will see the light. WAKE UP HARLEY. You better get with the new millennium, or you will be gone with the wind. Goodbye.
I tried out a Venture just before I bought my EGC and I'll tell ya, it was my 2nd choice. I thought it was a lot like the EG as far as ride position was concerned. Yes, it was cooler, but still not exactly what I was after.
To the OP, I think you'll read this thread, so to you- Good luck with your new ride. I live in Hanover and am an old guy too, PM me and we'll go for a ride.
If there was a perfect bike I guess there would only be one brand and we would all be riding the same thing. Different strokes for different folks. The whole Harley thing is cool, it's American and I enjoy putting up with the down sides for all the upsides!
the electra glide is and will always be the king of the road, i love my 05 egs vivid black,K&N high flow air filter, bassoni pro streets,pc3,adjustable highway pegs, back rest, nastalgia luggage rack and 100 miles an hour leaving 4th gear, i will never sell her i will keep her heart beating with evry penny that i have left.some folks just dont get it!!!!!!!!!!!!
