Is it possible the "kid" may have overreacted/over steered and lost control?
BINGO !!
Not being there, WE cannot know the exact situation.
However, I see this all the time. People overreacting as they come out of their dream state when they finally catch a glimps of me passing by them, nowhere near close enough for them to hit me if they just maintain. I just ride away shakeing my head. I may give a wave, sort of to say 'sorry for scareing/wakeing you'.
"yea, but i just spent $850 on a lift and better coils/shocks."
In a newly lifted truck, I'd guess (actually I know) you lose more visability around the vehicle. A person may be a bit unsure of how close things are.

Good engines and drive trains but I still don't like the exteriors on most Dodge products and I have never liked the styling on any of their trucks. Always liked Fords and their body styles. JMO

Face it, motorcycle mirrors aren't very good. The rider may not have known just how close the truck was. Could be the guy in the truck came up on him quicky and was going to pass him on the right.
From the picture that tire looks like it was worn out anyway.
