Loctite
When I bought my Springer Classic, I had a removable windshield put on by the stealer as part of the sale. This was about four months ago. This past weekend, I took the windshield off to wash the bike, and decided to leave it off for a couple days. Yesterday, on my way to work, I felt something hit the upper-inside of my foot. I didn't figure out what it was until I was on my way home, and happened to see one of the bolts holding the mounting grommets for the winshield most of the way backed out. I reached down and spun it back in, then looked at the others. And sure enough, one was missing. When I got home, I found that only one of the bolts was still all the way in, and it was *barely* snug. I immediately applied loctite to the three remaining bolts, and hit the parts guy up today for a replacement for the fourth, and sure as anything, I loctited it in place when I got home.
Seriously, if it doesn't have a lock-washer or nylock nut, it should have a drop of loctite put on before screwing it in place. Crazy me, I thought everyone knew that.
It's not that they haven't heard of it.... they choose to not pay attention to the instructions on all P&A Parts as well as the Service Manuals.....
VERY FEW instances are you told to NOT UTILIZE Loctite.....
99.9% of the nuts and bolts will get Blue (Light) or Red (Medium) strengths....
Hell, on most of the accessories, the bolts already have a lockpatch on them.....
And if you do buy some bottles, send some my way....$20 per bottle is taking it's toll on my tool account......
Purple is their light grade. (Used to be green)
Blue is their medium grade.
Red is their high grade.
Other companies make the thread locker and might use different colors. Make sure what you are using. You don't want to use high strength on the derby cover screws.
There are 3 loctite grades. Purple, Blue and Red.
Purple is their light grade. (Used to be green)
Blue is their medium grade.
Red is their high grade.

Anti-Sieze on those fasteners, as well as the inspection cover.....
And Loctites grades are far more than 3..... try 21....
The Green is the stuff that you have to torch off..... Here is a list of Loctites Products.....

I know how many products Loctite makes. I got Loctites website in my favorites. I was turning wrenches when they finally let the stuff get cheap enough for us to start using. The military hogged it for years. And their wicking loctite used to be green.
Most people will never see anything but red, green, and blue so why confuse the issue.
The point I was trying to get across is not all threadlocker is produced by loctite. And the other makers don't always use the same colors.
So before you put that drop on that 1/4 20 screw, bolt or nut, where ever it is, make sure it is not severe strength. Or you will be dam* sorry.
And I know several people, on old rides, that can't keep their derby cover screws in unless they put a drop of the wicking, whatever the color is, on the screw. And when I say wicking I am talking about what is now the purple loctite.
