Someone already has been putting crotch rocket engines in them and making drift cars from them.
Dammit you beat me to it. I wanted to post the Smartzuki!
Anyway, the stock smart car produces less peak HP than a 600cc sport bike and has worse gas mileage to boot. I would imagine this is thanks mostly to the EPA but the bottom line is a marginally roadworthy car that costs thousands more than larger subcompact cars. At least AMC made goofy looking compacts cheaply.
If any bike company could make a "caged" vehicle that was still classified as a bike to avoid all the superfluous regulations placed upon cars, they could have a hit. Maybe like the Can-Am Spyder with an enclosure. It would take some really aggressive marketing, but I bet someone could pull it off.
I Think Morgan Made one With a VTwin in the late 30's - mid 40's Engine up front. Two wheel in front one in rear. I saw one on Centeral Ave White Plains NY tooling down the Street looked and sounded cool. Got home found it on the net. Jay Leno has one. The MoCo should look into that.
The Mercedes dealer is one block from my HD dealer. Looking at the 'Smart' car and I got to wondering...
why wouldn't Harley Davidson make something like that? They have the technology and the 103" motor is bigger than a few other cars out there. (not talking about the trucks with badges)
Just wondering. Probably too much time on my hands.
Wait a sec. Please say you're not considering BUYING one of those things
Did no one inform you about the smoke coming from your ears when you thought this one up? I would have a fire extinguisher Handy next time you have a pondering idea.
Wait a sec. Please say you're not considering BUYING one of those things
Hey, it's only a matter of time before our government passes some BS regulations and taxes to force all of us to be driving those kinds of pieces of crap.
