Default ? Solid vs open wheel

I have a FatBoy. A few fellow riders around my area have told me that the solid wheels can be a problem here as it is a high wind area. Does anyone have exp with this. Does it make a difference if I change to some sort of an open wheel? I can see the logic in it but not sure how much difference in the ride it would make.

Just about every experienced rider I've talked with on a FatBoy has said they can "feel" the wind acting on the solid wheels. It's noticeable, but none of 'em said it was all that big a problem. And nearly every newbie I've talked with on a FatBoy said they didn't notice anything. Ride it and don't worry too much about it. You'll get blown around by those desert winds on any bike.

Figgered it was like somebody with drag pipes that couldn't feel the flat spot in their torque curve. Iffen ya don't know no better, ya ain't gonna notice, so it don't matter.

I wouldn't worry about it. My last bike had centerline style wheels. It was never a problem for me...

I live in the desert here in Yuma, I don't have solid wheels, and I still get blown. I doubt very seriously that the solid wheels would make any difference.
