I wouldn't jump the gun and replace it just because it's 4 years old. If it still starts strong and has a good charge, I'd leave it alone. My battery is close to 4 years old and still starts on the first hit of the starter.

Is that the case with EFI? For some reason I thought it could not be done.

I didn't look too far, but even so I was a bit surprised to find that the HS price is not much different than other vendors for a sealed maintenance-free AGM unit -- for example, J&P offers one for $115 (plus shipping), even Wal-Mart's battery (Item# P-GTX20HL-BS) is priced at $111; specs are comparable, both are CCA 270.

Am I missing something here? If not, guess I'll be able to get that bar&shield case after all... Yippee!

About what I did a month or so ago. I have an 05 FLHTI that still had the stock battery. It tested ok last year when I took it in, and keep it charged on a tender, but I noticed the tender wasn't going to green (just the tender jr.), at all. It still started ok (a little hesitation), and I noticed the radio was acting a little funny, so I said what the hell, and started looking. I really would like an Odessey battery, but that was well over $200. All the other's were pretty close in price and amps to the stock HD battery (like others said, most I think are made by the same company). Since I had a good 4 years on the stock (actually had it die on me early on before I got the tender), I figured it was worth it, one less thing to worry about for some longer rides I had planned.

Made a huge difference in the starting and the clarity of the stereo/speakers, so the older battery was probably starting to go.

You can push start an EFI if there is enough juice in the battery for the fuel pump to prime and open the injectors. You also have to have enough juice in the legs of the people pushing. I was one of the guys pushing. Not fun.

If the battery is real low or totally dead....no way.

Based on my experience with HD batteries, you still have about three good years left on yours. Mine always last seven years without a tender.

I try and change mine every two years (if I remember.) When they go, they go...usually little to no warning. Keep in mind though that based upon responses on this forum my battery life expectancy is quite a bit less than those with newer bikes. Some on here like to bash me for changing it out so often, but that doesn't change the fact that I've been left stranded on the side of the road with three year old batteries...just sayin'.
