Default Engine sputtering, 07 FLHT

Having a problem with my '07 FLHT sputtering at low RPMs. On takeoff at lights and such. Intermittent cough or may be losing one cylinder. Also idle seems to fluctuate. Bike is very early '07, (July), was told it does NOT have the program that drops out rear cylinder. Revving engine seems to help, acts like what we used to call "carb loading up". 35xxx miles, but has been doing this for 20xxx. Fuel filter change didn't help. Still under warranty, just wanted to know if anyone else has had the same problem before I take it in.

Thanks for replying. Yeah, I do my own service, been doing it forever. Plugs have been changed every 5000 mi., I do everything according to the service manual. Even played with the gap on the plugs. No help. Changing the fuel filter at the recommended 25000 miles didn't change a thing. Only mod to the bike is the K&N air filter. Could be a mapping problem due to the K&N, I guess. Wouldn't think the EFI would be that sensitive. Thanks for any ideas you have.

Hey. Just read how to pull the codes. Will do that tomorrow. Too bad no one makes a handheld scanner like I use on my cars. Would be a great tool. I do plan to take the bike in to the dealer, was just wondering if anyone else had a similar problem. Thanks for replying.

SUCCESS! Pulled the codes and got Po132 & Po152. Front and rear O2 sensor codes rich. Manual says this puts EFI in open loop and if happening during break-in, ignore or clear codes. Since mine had been doing it a long time, I cleared the codes. Bike immediately ran much better, with no coughing or sputtering. Put about 40 miles on it and the codes didn't come back. Can't believe I put up with it this long. Didn't know how to pull codes before using this forum. I'll probably start doing that diagnostic check monthly. One thing though, why would HD not tell the check engine light to come on for these codes? Manual says it won't. I've apparently been riding with the EFI in open loop for 20xxx + miles. I know it's my fault, but had the light come on, I'd have been more apt to take it in to the dealer. Thanks, and I'll be on here daily from now on.
Just put another 50 miles on it with no problems, no codes at finish.

It don't hurt to run a little fuel injector cleaner thru a tank of gas each time you change your oil....
