I'm going to change the fuel filter on the scoot next weekend. The shop manual is a little vague in a couple of areas. To any of you who have done this, suggestions would be appreciated. I'm sure it's not as complicated as the manual shows.
My fuel milage dropped down to 40 from 50mpg. My indy said that since there are no mods on the bike (bone stock), I've changed nothing but the air cleaner and plugs (fuel milage dropped off before I changed them), and there are no codes popping up, the fuel filter may be starting to clog. Last weekend, after changing the air filter and plugs, I took it for a 400 mile trip. 38 to 40 mpg. Outside of the fuel economy, the bike runs great.
Thanks for any help. Al
i just changed mine yesterday, took about 1 hr 10 mins. Not that hard. Once you get the housing loose, you pull up and rotate it counter clockwise. There is an arm and spring attached, that will give some resistance. When you get it out of the housing and twist, it will come out
okay.
Did the change yesterday afternoon. It took about an hour. 15 minutes of that hour was trying to get it back in. I couldn't wrap my mind around what the manual was telling me to do. While sitting down and fiddling with the fuel pump assembly and reading the manual, I pulled on it and it rotated 90 degrees. DING DING DING DING. It went right on in.
And yes, the fuel filter was stopped up. Some kind of black crap that was all the way up the hose. I have to assume it is junk that was in the tank from assembly. Now the pump sounds strong and pumps up quick when you turn the ignition on.
