Had my bike in for a couple issues while it was still under warranty. when I get it back the mechanical issues are resolved bu the bike has scratches on the primary cover and the battery tender lead is melted because they routed it wron annd it was lying ont he engine. Called dealer as soon as I got home and they told me to bring it back. I rode back to the dealer the next day and they checked it out and told me that the tech said there is no way he did the damage. They did agree to replace the cover and the lead though. Anyone experience this kind of stuff? I can't beleive that the HD techs aren't careful when it comes to working on customer bikes. What gives?

Most dealers do a walkaround on the bike before they take it in and another when you pick it up. Point out anything you see on the before walkaround. You know your bike better than anyone.
You should be standing right there for both and inspect it closely before you leave the shop. Anything found after work has been done that was not noted on the check-off sheet before work was done is dealer's/tech's responsibility, IMHO.
You will find good dealers and bad dealers. I don't trust most to do work on my bike unless it is warranty(which expires in Sept. of this year). I have manual, some tools, a lift and basic mechanical knowledge. If it is something outside my skill/comfort level, I will look for an independant shop to work on.
Yeah...I agree with the above coments. The time to inspect the bike is when it's at the dealer, before you take delivery. I would call the owner of the dealer and go from there.
