dyna is the way to go but if you can handle a fat boy
then you can handle a road king.

I like the way the fat boy looks, I like the way the dyna feels. (wasn't there a thread on that subject, lol) I'd probably go for the dyna, but there are thousands of fatboy owners out there who would disagree. A very good friend of mine struggled with the same decision, wound up buying the fatboy. About 2 months later he realized what he really wanted was a road king. You GOTTA ride them to know for yourself

I agree with 6 gun... if you like a fatboy, you'll love a road king.

In short, you need to test ride, check out some of the mod options, etc to get a better idea. Like someone else said, get which ever one make you smile. I knew the day I first saw a Street Bob it was the bike I wanted. Then I sat on one and that was it. Saved and waited a few years and looky there in my sig.

Smile opinions are like...well you know the rest

if you do a search it will turn up about 2 years worth of reading opinions. Opinions are important in some instances...in my OPINION this is not one of them. Go borrow or rent for at least a full day of riding each. You may decide something else might work for you too. Form your own opinion.

Don't think you could wrong with either, the Fatboy has proved itself over the years and the Fatbob has won nothing but fans since it came out. Fatbob will handle two up with ease (you need to change the seat and put a backrest on), never ridden a Fatboy but I like the looks. Try before you buy and good luck.

You indicated that you would be riding it in the mountains. If you are going to be doing alot of this, I would say go for the Dyna. I love my Heritage, but it sure ain't a canyon carver and the Fatboy is just a stripped down Heritage. However, the FatBoy has the FL front end and is a dream to ride on the highways, especially at any distance.

I still wish I had my Sportster for twisty mountain rides, but I do not ride the mountains enough to justify two bikes right now. Hell,if that was the case (being able to have two bikes) I would seriously think about adding a Buell XB12 Lightning to the garage for canyon carving.

I went from a Sportster to a Fatboy and have been extremely happy with it. We have been looking at bigger bikes for my wife (who inheirited the sporty), so a couple of weeks ago she and I rode a 2008 Low Rider. After about 5 miles on the bike she pulled over at a gas station to let me ride it. She immediately voice the opinion that she loved the ride of the fatboy much better than the dyna, and I agree wholeheartedly. The dyna is only a small step up from the sporty IMHO and the Fatboy is a huge upgrade.

Rent both and decide from there. That is the only way to know for sure which of the two YOU will prefer. Having said that, if it were me, I'd choose the Dyna. There is no dispute in that the Dyna is a better handling bike...what's more comfortable is left to personal preference.
