I agree with the expensive part.... I do basically the same thing, but I just throw on a cheap fram filter until the scavenge oil is out, then I toss it and put my new chrome K&N filter on...
after watching the video on the scavenger I am amazed at the amount of old oil that stays in the engine after an oil change. That gizmo really gets it all out. And looks pretty simple to install and use. It's pricey though...if they'd lower the price about 75 bucks they'll sell a million of them. Like the Walmart people say...."price it at a nickle and you'll sell a million...price it at a dollar and you'll sell a dozen"....or something like that.
PS: Fram sure drain is only $16 buck from Amazon....
