Depends on what kind of riding you do. I mostly cruise at highway speeds and have 15000 on mine. Might change it out soon cuz the wife and I are taking a trip over Labor Day and I don't want to risk it. Get a tire depth gauge and if you have more than 3/32 left, ride it in my opinion.
Do you see the wear marks that are around the Harley Davidson sign in the center of the picture you took. When the tire tread is even with that, it is time to change. Unless you are taking a long road trip, I would ride it until it gets even with the wear marks on the tire. I change my own, so at this point I would be getting online to order a tire so I could change it when it got to that point, but not before.
They got this new fangled thing called a tire gauge. It reads tire tread depth and gives you a measurement. The HD tire tread gauge is color coded for the numerically challenged. It reads in tread depth and gives a color code of green for good, yellow for caution and red for time to get a new tire.
I just changed mine at 7400 miles I'm sure I could of gone another 1000 but my tire was wearing sort of flat in the middle. I could feel it when I cornered hard the tire felt like it was on an edge if you know what I mean.
And I wanted to change it before I went to Delmarva Bike week next month. Not to change the subject but I heard that shock adjustment affects the way a tire wears?? In my case flat across the middle about 3 inches. Any ideas. One other thing I replaced it with a Metzler ME880
160/70/17 stock 2009 super glide size tire 135.00 and 52.00 to install.
You should be able to get 10k out of that tire. Tough to say depending how you ride, where you ride, the road conditions, etc...but as a general rule I'd say 10k.
