If she's already riding the sporty, she should be able to ride a softail. I am 5'1", started on a 1200C, then I got my fatboy. Both were lowered. The fatboy just handles so much better than the sporty did. After riding the fatboy and then going back and riding the sporty, it was awkward and I felt uncomfortable on it. Good Luck!

Thanks for your input,we are going to the dealer tonight to check out the new fatboy and some other models.I will let you know how it goes. She did have a sportster we sold it about 6 months ago. It's the one in my sig.
My wife rides a Deluxe too. She tried an 883 too and I lowered it in every way possible (suspension and seat) and it was still not right for her. The center of gravity on that bike is MUCH higher than many of the FL bikes. This top-heaviness make it want to fall-over if tipped slightly and a small woman may not have the strength to keep it upright.....mine didn't. She had it fall over 3 or 4 times. She's never dropped her Deluxe (which is much heavier than a Sporty). The center of garvity is lower and the seat height is the lowest in HD's lineup.
well just got back from the dealer we picked up a nightster wifey is happy and now the best part,The dealer is looking for a Road Glide 2010 denim black for me.We will pick up the Nightster next week.
My wife is 5'0" and I lowered her 883 C with the burly slammer kit. She loves it, but it is a tad harsh on the ride. She is flat footed with it now. If she was taller, I would get her on a deluxe though. I have seen some shorter inseam riders on lowered Street Bobs too.
thats backwards. the deluxe has a shorter seat height than the sportster, and can be lowered as well.
