I have an 06 Ultra with 34,000 miles. It is one year out of warranty. I had one year beyond the two year factory warranty. During bike week in Sturgis, I suddenly developed a noise in the motor that sounded like gravel in a tin can.
It was trailered to Signature Cycles in Eau Claire, WI who tore the motor down.
They found a bent cam shaft. The cam had a groove wore in, at the end opposite the chain. No other problems. Cam chain tensioners looked like new.
They said this had to be a factory defect which took this many miles to be a problem.
They had never seen this before and never heard of this happening before.
Anyone ever heard of this before, and anyone know if Harley would cover this under the good faith warranty program.
People have a hard enough time getting them to do warranty work when the bike is under warranty, never mind a warranty that expired a year ago. I'd say you have zero chance, but can't hurt to ask.
