Default Pinstripes

Hello... sorry, although I love the Ultra, I don't ride an HD but I do have a question and figured this would be the place to get the answer.

On any "newer" Harley that is two-toned or even those that are single color with "straight line stripes" that break the color change or provide an accent line, can anyone tell me if those stripes are hand painted or decals (ie a vinyl type striping product)? I know that whatever it is, it is covered with a clearcoat.

Thanks.

They're decals.

To me they appear as though they are; however, I've been told that they are painted on by a robot at the factory. Is there any way I can absolutely confirm this (aside from phoning a factory rep)?

I think I remember seeing a TV show once about that very subject. I really thought they were painted on. However, I wouldn't bet the farm on it!

As previously mentioned the Discovery channel had a program that showed the stripes being hand painted . I do not know if this is across all the models or just the anniversary /CVO lines. I would think that they could be robotically painted as well. I can say on the 08 Ultra they are painted with clear over them

HD sales the decals and stripes. They must go both ways.
