I want my grandsons to remember, "Grandpa rode a Harley." Nuff said.

I heard this from our regional director last year at our meeting.

Q: What's the one thing Harley-Davidson has that all the other manufactures would love to have?

A: Harley-Davidson is the only company that people will tattoo on their body.

Think about that for a minute, what other company do you see tattoo'd on someone, NONE!
Dork at work has Budwieser on his arm,guy I wakeboard with has Nautique on his back, buddy I used to drag race with has a Chevy Bowtie...................but the HD is the only cool one.
Call me a dork, geek, nerd, whatever; but this is what I've got on my forearm--been a 'puter geek for years, so it seemed natural

But in keeping with the thread, I've wanted a Harley for years and years. When I was a kid, I remember seeing a big full dresser and thinking about how cool it must be. Over the years, I've had a couple rice burners, in fact just last year I had a 650 Yamaha Maxim, and the wife had a 500 Shadow; she decided she'd rather be a passenger, so she told me to sell em both and buy my harley--I'm now at a point in my life where I can afford the toys I want, so I'm doing just that

Because like you ... 'I have loved Harley since I was a kid ..." Go after what you love in life.

ORIGINAL: Axholio

I just have to ask this... I have loved Harley since I was a kid (long time ago). I see so many non Harley riders bash, compare and complain about Harley bikes and riders that I just gotta ask what your reasons are.

Compared to some others...

They're not the fastest.
They're not the most reliable.
They're not the nimblest.
They're not totaly "American Made".
They're definately not the cheapest...

So, why did you want a Harley?

Harley to me is like my Porsche.......there is NO SUBSTITUTE
Im not knocking anything on two wheels,as i own Jap bikes as well but if you are looking for a cruiser thats a brusier and the whole Harley mystique fits your personality then i dont see another bike in the market that comes close...IMHO

For me, Harley's are the '57 Chevy, the '69 Z-28, the '66 Mustang, the '70 Cuda, etc. etc. of the motorcycle world. There may be faster makes, more reliable makes (not by much though), and more technology available with other brands but I'd still take a fully restored, mint muscle car over a brand new Porsche anyday.

Also:

--Easy to work on
--Parts and accessories catalog second to none
--A company that is an icon throughout the world
--Very reliable and road worthy...wouldn't be afraid to jump on mine and head for any destination

exactly my thoughts.

For me it can all be summed up as THE SOUND I can tell a Harley coming in the distance I owned a Triumph and would put the pipes on that made it sound as close to a Harley as I could get. But it still wasn't a Harley I would hear a Harley coming blocks awaya and as it approached the sound made me want one so bad. Every spring you would start to hear them coming and it would torture me all summer. I would hear the Harleys and dream of the day I would own one. I owned the Triumph and then a 650 Yamaha and was never quite satisfied I would still hear the Harleys and dream of "one day" Well now I own one and when I hear one coming in the distance, it isn't that ache of wanting to own one anymore, it is the satisfaction of knowing I do own one and it makes me want to go out and ride it. See ya later I'm going for a ride.

thats it. it is the smell. the feel ,the grin ,and the fact it is the oldest , i know the indain people say they are but they went out of busienesss for a very long time . then came back the name is the same but that still makes them the new kid on the block .there is only one true motorcycle company that has been around for 103 years and that is Harley -davidson.and it dont get any better.
