HI.
I just bought my first Harley. Its an 07 heritage classic w/1200 miles. Any tips on this model? Also Harley Davidson installed V&H Big Shots(NO BAFFLES that I can tell). High air flow intake kit, and SE tuner before the first mile was ever put on the bike. Will the aftermarket pipes decrease the engine life? Is it possible to get 100,000 miles before a rebuild assuming pm and serviced properly?
Thanks in Advance.
Mark
Mines an 06 with V&H staggers, with no baffles. Just hit the 50,000 mile mark on it with no problems except for the stator going out the other day. All the proper maintenance has been done on it. May want to get the cam chain tensioners checked at around 40,000 to 45,000 miles. Wouldnt trade it for nuthin in the world. Man! You got an 07 with only 1200 miles! What the heck was the previous owner doing with it? Musta been skeered of it! LOL!
You will be fine, I would venture to say that most do swap out the pipes and intake and add some sort of tuner within the first 1500 miles.....only thing that would shorten the engine life is you lack of proper maintenance and TLC, and of course drag racing from light to light......
Yeah. Must have been skeered. I appreciate the imput. The 07 cam chain tensioners are automatic hydraulic adjustment. Should I still get them checked.
Dont really know about that, I aint a motorcycle mechanic. I just know the advice that was given to me regarding mine from the fine folks on this here forum. Just do a lot of reading on your bike, and it dont hurt to search the forums for info either. I learned a whole heck of a lot by doing that.
I would think that adding an intake and exhaust, and the tuner would prolong the life of bike by decreasing the engine temp which is really high due to the epa restrictions mandated on these bikes from the factory. Proper maintance is gonna be the key to longevity of these bikes.

The 2007's have the new cam chain setup so no need to check. If you put baffles on your pipes you WILL get more low end torque, but that is up to you. Just ride it and do the services and you will be fine.
I'd be more worried about the time frame where it wasn't being ridden, more than I'd worry about what you could do to it, as long as you keep up with the maintenance. Motors are meant to be used. You can cause just as much damage to one by not using it as you can by over-using it.

It ain't hurt from low miles....I more than one vehicle that only see a few hundred miles a year. They are doing just fine.
As far as longetivity of the Twin Cam goes, you should have no trouble getting 100k miles out of a decently serviced engine. I have 76k on mine. It still runs like new.
