I'm with the old wive's tale myself, have solid rims on the ol' lady's bike, 40 spokes on one of the shovels, 80 on the other and mags on the RK. Guys told me the same thing with 80 spoke, personally I can't tell the difference between any of them. Now, about the Golden Gate bridge and another of my favorites, the Mackinac bridge, those winds will blow you around no matter what you have ...............

Solids on my SE RK, rear bags cover most of the rear tire, I've had bikes with spoked wheels too, wind is going to push it no matter what wheels you have, I'd say Old Fender covered it pretty well.

I can't tell much difference but then again I did not get the spoke wheels.I live on the coast and 25-35 hr winds with higher gust are common on a daily bases. I get blown around some but that also happens while on the sporty.

I notice side force winds more on my SG than I ever did on my Fatboy.

One bike with, one without. I can tell a difference in certain conditions.

Maybe, with pure physics you could find a difference. However, I am bigger than both my wheels put together, so I think I am more of a problem than they are. Same with the tank and engine, those have to have as much of an impact as solid wheels.

I am sure the OP now has a clear answer to his question.

Seems like the front disc would pretty much cancel any possible airflow difference through the spokes anyway.

Doesnt bother me. I have had spokes and now solids. Cant say that it makes a big difference.
