Right on.......Paradise is VERY proud of their new store. I saved almost $3000 by driving across town to Latus. If that big ride works out look me up. I'd be all over that.
Hey I'd be up for that too,I'm about 40 minutes from Portland.
Bought both my EG and the wifey's Sporty at Latus, don't care much for Columbia Cycle in Vancouver, sadly as they are much closer.

WOW! This is more information than I ever expected to get from such a simple post on a forum. You guys are being great about this, form the weather, things to do, best dealers, fishing quality, cost of living, a little history, quality of the schools and then you're inviting me on a ride to boot! This is giving me the urge to come and meet up with you guys.

Honestly tho' thanks for all the details. I'll need to know about where I'm thinking of moving my life.

BTW I'll need a place to stay while we're looking for a house (2 adults, 3 kids, a dog, and fish). It shouldn't be more than a few months at most. JK

I live in Sherwood and for the most part am very happy there. Riding wise it's great. I can be in wine country in 15 minutes. Lots of beautiful backroads to play around on. Sherwood is on the edge of the Urban Growth Boundry which is always a hotly debated topic. If they expand the boundry lots of things are possible. For now though it is keeping housing prices up and farm land (and nice riding roads) are still abundant.

The weather has been pretty well described by everyone else. The nice part about living here vs. Wisconsin is that there are no down months. You can always get a couple of dry strectches to ride even in the wet months. The Willamette Valley is 30 minutes away and has some beautiful roads. The coast is 1.5 - 2 hours away, the mountains are 1 - 1.5 hours away, central Oregon high desert is 2 - 3 hours away. If big cities are your thing every now and again then Seattle is 3 hours up the freeway. My Dad and I make an annual trip to Northern California coast (Ft. Bragg) every September and that is only a long days ride from Sherwood. It really is a beautiful place to live with lots of riding options.

The motorcycle scene is pretty fun around the Portland area. There is a pretty lively Wednesday Taco night deal in Tualatin (about 15 minute ride from Sherwood). Latus Motors HD in Gladstone is one of the premier performance and service centers in the country. There are always ABATE poker runs, HOG runs, dealer stuff going on. There is also the Oregon 250 and 500 which draw big crowds. There are 4 dealerships in the area, Latus in Gladstone, Paradise HD in Beaverton, Walkers HD in Salem, and Columbia HD in Vancouver WA. Paradise is the closest to Sherwood, but the last place I spend money at.

Why don't you fly out, rent a bike, and a bunch of us locals can spend the weekend riding you all over the place.

Right on.......Paradise is VERY proud of their new store. I saved almost $3000 by driving across town to Latus. If that big ride works out look me up. I'd be all over that. BTW, check out the cost of living. Don't know how it is in WI but it is spendy here. Make sure you hit the company up for some extra bucks in the check. No sales tax tho.....[sm=happy046.gif]
No kidding. Paradise is out of their mind on bike prices. Funny thing is, Latus is a newer/bigger store, yet they aren't gouging like the west side boys. I guess until Paradise starts getting loaded up on inventory they can't move they won't be changing their business practices. To each their own I guess.

I think you'll find the cost of living in Sherwood is in line with the rest of the west ( more expensive side of the river) side. When I moved here it was a relative bargain for the area. Now it is getting out of control. I paid $190,000 for my brand new 3 bedroom 2.5 bath 1800 sq ft house in a nice subdivision 4 years ago last March. Last week a house in my same neighborhood, the same floor plan even, sold for $355,000. It was also 4 years old. I guess I shouldn't complain, but everything is relative. I really can't afford to move even though I would like a bigger house (and of course a 3 car garage) because a step up is going to cost me almost $500,000 in this same general area. One really good town that prices are still affordable is Newberg. It is growing though. Only 10 minutes south of Sherwood on Hwy 99. It's pretty much the start of wine country.

Good luck
BZ

Heh heh...when I lived in Sherwood (1956-1970) you could have bought the whole town or that.
Population when we moved in 1970 was about 900.

You are one lucky guy. A chance to move to Oregon, TAKE IT. I speak as someone from Europe, Oregon is my favourite state in the whole of the US. Used to work for a company out of Beaverton and had many regular trips out there. Have now ridden the length of the state and around the sothern part (Crater Lake) many times.
Move you will never regret it!

I looked into the cities and Sherwood is rather expensive but Newberg looks very similar to where I'm coming from, as far as money goes.

Looks like we'll be settling in Newberg when the time comes. I'm not much of a commuter when it comes to work. Right now I've got a 7 mile commute but I'm sure I'll enjoy this new ride, there's a few different twisties I could take. I may have to leave for work a few hours early and get home late tho'.

Roadkingboy, that's very inspirational, thank you!

Thanks, to all you guys, for the great information.

Newberg is a nice little town and only 15 or 20 minutes from Sherwood.
It's also closer to the coast, only about 65 miles!

I know you gotta do what you gotta do, but mark my words... Newberg will be the same price as Sherwood within a couple of years. If you're going to make the move, don't wait. Get in while it's still affordable. From the middle of Sherwood, I can be at the north end of Newberg in about 5-7 minutes, through Newberg in less than 20 easy. You'll like it here.

I've talked to a few people at work and heard that the subject was brought up in a meeting but I'm still waiting for a reply to my wanting to move out there. [:@]

The guys they've been sending out there to get things set up and making sure it's "up-to-par" have been spending alot of time out there and it's hard for me to get ahold of them to ask the questions about the new place and people that are working there. I'm sure it won't be long and I'll have an answer, then I'll post it here to keep you guys "in-the-know". Thanks for all the information guys and hopefully some day I'll be seeing you.
