You would have to include any registration and insurance fees in the overall cost. then you would have to expect more than one payment. Used bikes might take a while to sell so it could be yours for four or five months unless you are willing to sell at a great price possibly involving a larger than acceptable loss.
my friend if you dont own a bike and think you and the ol can just hop on and drive across the country in mountains ,in wind ,in rain ,etc see you in the hospital or divorce court.
please take a cycle safety course, if you used to ride 10 years ago that aint good enough please take a course in cycle safety
wow,i really appreciate all the responses.i didn't know what to expect.the company eaglerider does offer 1 way rentals specials that need to be ridden by a certain time for a lower than regular price .they're smart. instead of paying a truck to transport them, they charge a lower price for consumers to rent them.it's a way for someone to try out a bike for a week or so,but you're right ,a big bike and a novice rider could get hairy.the question is do i do it or just dream about doing it.i drove a 17 foot truck last summer cross country but an 800 pound motorcycle ....?
If you're a new rider, you are not going to be ready to hop on a large bike with a passenger and head into the sunset. You need to take the licensing course, then accumulate a few thousand miles on the bike before you are ready for a passenger.
i looked up the specs at hd.com but still want to know the difference between road king ,electra glide, and any other big touring bike .has anyone ridden them and noticed one as being better than another for long distance?
I rented 4 harleys last week to figure out which I liked best (Road King). BUT, for long distance 2-up I would go the Electra or Ultra classic. That fairing is sweet and you get all the hard bags. At 80 mph+ it was nice. Maybe rent one or two for a couple days then decide. My own insurance covered the rental bike so the cost per day was around $102. Worth every penny.

Streetglide sits about an inch lower. Other than that they'll all get you there about the same. I'd take the one that fit me the best.
