Default Best cleaner for grey HD engine cases?

What is the best cleaner for the grey HD engine cases? Everything I have here at the house just seems to smear gunk around but not really clean it up very well.

Any suggestions will be of help, thanks in advance for your answers!

I use Simple Green. I don't let it sit very long. It works very well on oil.

I agree with the Simple Green as well. Also, believe it or not, Windex works as well.

Mix a solution of 50/50 water and "Shout" (yep the laundry cleaner) spray it on, use a brush (bottle), rinse off. I've used this for a couple of years and hasn't "etched" the aluminum wheels or engine cases. It's good on brake dust.

Not sure if my 99 FXD is the same, but I use Triple Acting Shout full strength with a scrub brush.
Also I get a little seepage around the bottom of the jugs, around the oil filter area and on the bottom of the motor. For this stuff I use brake cleaner. Spray, rub, and rinse.

Any reason not to use plain old Gunk?

Simple Green. Removes all the grime, grease and bugs. Least expensive of all other cleaners. I use the SG spray bottle and my tooth brush and have another spray bottle of water for the rinse so it doesn't get to messy on the driveway. When I'm completely down, hose it down with the garden hose. Engine looks like new.

I have used Turtle Wax bug and tar removal spray on mine with good results!

We always used Gunk back in the day on the shovels, panheads and ironheads. It got rid of all that oil and grease pretty well.
