Default kinda like this quote

"The object of life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting, 'Holy ****, What a Ride!!!'"

A whole lot of bad stuff there. So sorry. As a father, husband and soon to be grandfather, thoughts of no longer riding have drifted in and out of my mind. My wife and I love to ride and always have. I got my first motorcycle when I was 13, 42 years ago. Our love for riding has been passed on to our kids. Our son rides a Ducati and our Son-in-Law did ride until just recently when he sold his bike. When new friends hear of our hobby they are often shocked and many times express their fear of riding and the danger it presents. "How can you get on that thing and risk being killed just to ride a motorcycle?" I think of that at times and wonder if I'm being realistic and should I be taking risks like that. But I always come back to "just screw it and ride!" I love to ride and that's all there is to it.

If your family rides, I suggest 2 things:
1. Be sure you and your wife have an up to date will.
2. Be sure you have life insurance to care for any who may need it once you are gone.

Again, sorry for your loss and if you keep riding, ride safe!!

Family comes first the way I see it. I quit riding when my first daughter was born, got back on when she was 33. Sorry about your losses, do what you think is best.

Sorry!

You, and only you, can determine whether or not to keep riding.

Good luck!

Aug, 8th 2006 I am riding down the highway at 100 MPH when the front brake locks. Next thing I remember is darkness. then something impact my chest (I think I got ran over, which restarted my heart) I can remember being dragged over to the side of the highway. When I try to get up I realize my left leg (femur) was broke. Emergency worker show up and say I don't think he is going to make it, he's going into shock. Me the smart *** I am say "I can f'king hear you!". So I get to the hospital have surgery and die to make a long story shorter... They bring me back. I could not walk or wipe my *** (turns out wrist was broke in two spot too) for months, had to relearn to walk and spent many months in a wheel chair and stroke walker, so what did you think I did, I bought another bike while I was still in a wheel chair to make sure I could still ride once I learned to walk again. Why did I tell you this, cause if you sell your bike you will only by a new one. By the way I have 4 kids all under the age 9 the youngest being almost 3, not sure if I was ever going to see her at the time. I put 19000 this season thus far.

My wife and I love to ride together (seperate motorcycles)> My biggest fear is that I might see her go down one day and to be frank... i dont know how I could handle witnessing her being hurt in this fashion.

With all that being said, we have gotten comfortable with the risk.... but then again our kids are grown and if we die it really does not matter that much. Each should make this decision and think about others more than just your desire for fun. As married people and as parents, we have responsibilities much further than ourselves.

To each his own... and good luck in making these hard decisions.

Sorry for all the bad breaks that have come your way. Prayers out for you and all your family. If you decide to take a break from riding, you can return any time, no harm, no foul.

Sorry to hear of your loss. This will be a very hard personal choice. If you take a look at Nascar drivers. For many it's a family thing. They know the danger, they know the rewards.
If you are doing everything in your power to be safe I truly believe it's up to a higher power.
If the fun and burning desire is gone then you will know what to do. Don't sell the bikes but maybe put them out of sight for awhile. You will know in time what is right.
Best wishes to you and your family.
