I went and did it
Well all week I've been looking at different bikes in the dealership. Super Glides, Fat boys etc. I kept going back to this 09 Fat Boy, denim black with lots of chrome. The sales girl talked to me about the bikes all week and was really pretty informative. So tonight was our last night and there I was back out on the showroom floor. The sales girl hands me a piece of paper with the price of the bike with a windshield thrown in. I looked at the paper, wrote down my price (which was considerably less than theirs) and said "plus the windshield".
I went back to the little party our group was having in the back and got a piece of pizza. A few minutes later the sales lady came back and had me follow her to the front. Here comes the counter offer, they took the deal minus the windshield. So now I'm the owner of a 09 Fat Boy.
I pick it up on Wednesday, and to say I'm a bit nervous about driving it away from the dealership would be an understatement. The guys in the class that already ride told me that actually riding their bikes is easier than riding the Buell's we rode in class.
The bike was on display at a Hotel across the street from the dealership so thats where the pics were taken at.

Remember... you don't know what you are doing yet. It will take time and additional study. Always leave a margin for error and you should do ok. Testosterone and bikes dont mix well
So far for me.... 60,000 miles in 3.5 years acciedent free. God helped me through all but especially those first 5,000 miles or so.
To each his own.

Congrats!
Take care of her and she'll give you plenty of miles to grin about.
And the people in your riding class are right: the ground clearance and low torque/hp on those blasts leave a lot to be desired compared to you FLSTF.
Don't forget to floss after each ride to get the bugs out of your teeth!
Roll on,

PS
toypuller and kumite are right; give yourself some time to get familiar with the dynamics of the bike and the real world environment. Relax, but always be on guard.
