The thing that gets me about this is the 3.8% of all vehicles in the state are motorcycles and they are trying to say it is a health issue? C'mon. What about all the people who modify their cars fast and furious style? Surely there are more of those than all the motorcycles in teh entire state. What a load of crap. I live on an extremely busy street in Los Angeles and would consider the dust kicked up by the constant traffic all day more of a health risk than anything having to do with any vehicles emissions.
I have to raise my voice to talk to people on my patio due to the traffic noise on my patio but it does not bother me as I CHOSE to live where I do. This is such BS. Maybe we should try to get a bill passed so that people who have babies must dispose of their diapers in some sort of secure trash bin so we do not ahve to breathe it should we walk down the street on trash day.
Seriously. I cannot even start to name the number of things that annoy about the world on a daily basis yet I prefer to live in acceptance than fight something that is considered and accepted as a normal part of society. I smoke so this is not an issue for me, but what about others with neighbors who smoke. Will the smokers soon be taken to jail for exercising free will?
And...if they are pushing so hard on motorcycles we must start a boom boom car and noise bill as I hear far more cars with boom boom music and loud exhaust on a daily basis than motorcycles.
Rant over. Just total bs any way you toss it.
Now now now!!!! The liberal media just want to protect you. They know what is is best for all of us!!
Funny timing of this article. For just a few days ago, on September 11th, maybe a thousand or so motorcyclists rode through this writers home town of Long Beach. The ride was for the rememberance of the 9-11 terroist attack in NY.
I'm sure several hundered motorcycles roaring though a quite beach town would be quite noisy. Mr. Johnson Jr. should admit to what is really bothering him. Not just a motorcycle or two, but the annual September 11th event itself.
He is obviously a terroist sympathiser and is trying to shut down any US patriotic memorial of the day. And since our US president also took time to pay respect to the fallen of that event, Mr. Johnson Jr. stands against the young black president and is obviously a racist !!
"I agree wholeheartedly about your suggestion that we should be tolerant. If the motorcycdlists were as tolerant as you suggest, there would be no problem."
Apparently my point flew right over his head. He's basically saying "We can work together, as long as I get my way".
I can imagine living next door to this character. I fire up the bike and pull out keeping it as quiet as possible. He hears me at best for a few seconds and I'm gone. Next morning is Saturday so I can sleep a little late but he needs to mow his lawn so I have to listen to his mower for an hour or more. When he is done he turns on the radio on his patio while he cleans the mower and has a cold drink so I gotta listen to his radio for who knows how long. Saturday night he goes out bar hopping and gets home about 1 AM. He pulls in his driveway with the car windows down and the radio going full blast. It's his favorite song so he sits there for 10 minutes listening to some tunes. Sunday afternoon he has a BBQ for his friends and they're all out on the patio with music going and having a good time so I gotta close up my house to watch TV. He's bothered me for several hours vs my few seconds and I'm written up as the bad guy in his newspaper column.
Yeah, the author sounds like he has a grudge against bikers anyway. Wife/girlfriend probably cheated on him with a biker because he was too busy writing about saving trees or something.

You nailed it!!! I was part of that ride and yes it was loud. And yes, I did get a little teary eyed when all those Fire Departments were waving and saluting us as we made our way from Orange County to Long Beach. These moments renew my faith in our Country.

And if anybody said anything, he would go off about how it was his RIGHT as a free American to do all those things. Total hypocrites.
I'm never going to worry about this or be annoyed about it. There is WAY too many other things on the motor highway to be annoyed about. This is small..teeny tiny, nothing stuff compared to a texting motorist headed straight for a biker. Nope sorry, not important. I don't have loud pipes, but this is just a mute point, subject, worry, annoyance...it's just nothing campared to.......
