just bought a 2010 wide glide without the factory security system. seeking opinions on the factory system. is it worth the cost. does it work any known problems with it. also does it have to be installed and programmed by the dealer, or can the owner install and set it up
thanks
cw
I had mine installed by the dealer at purchase – had one on my Nightster. No negative issues. I’m really glad to have it in fact. I’m moving soon and thinking of adding on the siren for a little audible alert to tampering.
That is what i have also but I don't think I would add the siren because I am always showing my friends what I have added. It would be sounding all the time.
Wished I had the pager but I like my security system for what it is. Just another deterrent to bike theft. Before all the if they want it they will get it crowd jumps in---anything that slows you down from taking my property illegally while I get a sight picture on you is good enough for me. Once I put enough holes in you --your thieving days are over. It is Texas.
Just be sure to always carry a spare battery for it.Also the instructions to disarm it.All that extra stuff is cool as long as it works, when there is a problem you are stranded. If it was me I would just lock it up and insure it.
I have it with the siren and I later bought the pager. I don't know if it has prevented theft or tampering with my bike but it makes me feel better about leaving the bike alone or overnight at a motel. It also slightly reduces my insurance costs. Worth the cost for peace of mind (even if it is a false sense of security ).
I don't know about the installation as mine was installed when I bought the bike.
Ive got the pager and siren, nice piece of mind when Im on a road trip or in a bar. Any tampering and pager will notify me. Knock on wood, never had it go off.

I have security on my 06 Deluxe (Factory installed) and to be honest I rarely use it. Likely from lazyness, but to date when I walk outside my bike has been there. (Thank God!) But if it isn't you can bet I will be getting some of my hard earned insurance money back!
That is what i have also but I don't think I would add the siren because I am always showing my friends what I have added. It would be sounding all the time.
I have the siren added. It has the optinion to have it silent except for the alarm itself. It only flashed the turn signals for arming and disarming. There is not any sound. It only sounds if the alarm is activated.
It can be set to sound for everything if it makes you feel better too.
