I spent the best $140 on my bike today. I got my wife a private lesson, specifically for someone that is unsure they can ride, from a MSF teacher. Bought a 2000 883 Sporty 5 hours later (OK, so it was more than $140). She's now signed up for the beginner's class next weekend.
Now my bike can lose the 2-up seat and the sissy bar.
Good deal for your wife, bad move (IMHO) for you. Should have gone ahead and bought her a softail too! My wife learned to ride last November. Bought her a 750 Metric, traded it for a 06' XL1200L Sportster, let her ride a Heritage Softail this week. Oh schmidt! Now she's in love with the softail. At least you should be glad she likes to ride! LOL! LOL!
No. No. No. Cheap sporty to, at least, keep it in the family. My hope is that she'll want to try out my FatBoy sometime later this fall and that will lead me to "upgrade" to something else this winter.
I'm glad she wants to ride but then, It's all about me anyway.
Don't worry it will only take about 6 months for her to be ready for the softail so you'll get your new bike soon
A privite lesson was a good idea. Had 4 girls fail my MSF class cause they were not prepared. 2 of them left saying they were going to go have some private lessons before they try again.
Some guys think that teaching thier wives themselves is a good idea only to find that they transfer thier bad habits and/or cause a lot of stess to the relationship. My hubby was both patient and frustrated. He did well but private lessons away from him might have been a good idea (don't tell him I said that )
Wow, congratulations! It's always nice to hear when the girls get involved. You better watch out though, I am only warning you.... She might just like it waaayy tooo much! Pretty soon she'll be quite the independent and venture out on her own, without you. It's addictive. It's great a Christmas though, you never are stuck for ideas for a gift for her. Even girls like shiney chrome!

This doesn't make sense to me... I have to take lessons to be ready to take lessons? I would be a little more than disappointed if I paid for riding lessons at the MSF and failed because I didn't know how to ride before I got there. I mean, isn't that what the course is for... to learn how to ride a bike? Nothing wrong with private lessons, and I highly recommend them to any novice that needs the extra tutoring, but a Basic Riders Course is just that... a course to TEACH the riding basics. I would think that if anyone failed the class it's the instructors. I know there's only so much you can do in 19 hours, but it's not fast food education is it? What am I missing?
