I'm getting ready to go on my first long distance ride ... a two day, 600 mile ride in the Southern Utah (Zions, Capial Reef, Bryce Canyon) area. Weather should be cool, but not too cold. I have a half shell helmet. Should I consider the purchase of a full-face helmet for a longer ride? The vanity in me says that a full face helmet doesn't look right with Harley Deluxe, but I can get over that soon enough. Any helmet recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!!!
I normally wear a half helmet myself, but can tell you that a full face is VERY nice in the cold and GREAT in the rain as rain at 65 mph STINGS! I would say look for a full face or at least a 3/4 with a face shield if you expect ANY rough weather
I wear my 1/2 helmet year round. I use a bandana over my face also, but I do that in 90 degree weather too it keeps bugs and other crap out of my face.
I would not be so concerned about what you look like, who cares what people think, rather get what makes you most comfortable. personally I don't like the full face as much because the wind catches and makes it feel like a ten ton weight on my head.
Another option would be a 3/4 helment, Fulmer V2s are pretty cool. I am thinking about getting one to mix it up.

Riding a motorcycle is suppose to make a person some what of a free spirit, setting you apart from all the strictly cage drivers. So why should you even think twice about the fashion police. Do it the way you want to do it.

If you prefer the half helmet stick with it and carry a wind resistant face shield that you can slip on if your face gets cold. Don't concern yourself with what other people think. If someone laughs or makes a comment about what your wearing just say Thanks! cause you obviously made an individual impression on them.
What you look like is your hang up, because if you ask around here you'll get the whole spectrum of opinions. So, how do you pick which one is right? That's a trick question since nobody has the answer except you.
I usually ride with a 1/2, but when the weather cools down I switch to the 3/4. It's quieter and less tiring on longer rides, and you can always remove the shield if you want.
If you have enough room on the bike you can wear one and carry the other.
I have one of each, 1/2, 3/4, and full. In weather or on a long trip I like the 3/4 with a full face shield. The shield comes down close to my chin. The one thing I do not like about my FF is cannot glance down at my gauges, I have to look down by putting my chin to my chest.
I also have earplugs and a mask when I get caught in weather with the 1/2 helmet. All this in a state that doesn't require helmets....................
Hope this helps.

I have a half and full. Just finished a four day ride across British Columbia, into Alberta, down to Montana and back to Washington through Glacier National Park and North Cacades Highway (1676 miles in 4 days). While the weather was pretty good, it got really cold going over some of the mountain passes and through Glacier Park. I wore the full face when it was cold or raining but there were times I wished I had a 3/4. I just ordered a Shark Evoline Absolute Helmet. It converts to a 3/4 from full so now I can carry my half and the Shark and have the equivelent of all 3. I don't give a hoot what someone thinks about what I'm wearing. I care about my comfort and safety.
Fashion takes a back seat to safety. I always wear a full face on long road trips. Full face lids are warm, reduce wind noise, keep my eyes from tiring, and offer the best protection from rain, bugs and other whipped up crap. I ride an Ultra. I enjoy listening to my iPod through my helmet speakers.
